Engagement Ring Simplicity

Some like it flashy, some like it simple and today, there are more and more women who are opting for the simple styles when it comes to engagement rings. Now simple very often does not mean cheaper - in fact a simple solitaire usually costs a lot more than a ring made with small diamonds or diamond chips. The reason for this could be the fact that many more women work today and they want something that goes with a professional look and not something that makes them look too dressy. A simple solitaire can look so elegant with a business suit without taking away the professional look.

Finally, whether an engagement ring is simple or flashy would really depend on the taste of the man or the woman who bought it. For some, unless there are a lot of diamonds that throw out their rays of brilliance, they are not satisfied. For others, understated elegance is what they are looking for.

It is important to know whether the person you're buying the ring for is more traditionally orientated or whether the prefer more contempary designs, such as art deco. Many designs can be catered for, but you have to let your retailler know, it is no use buying any design and hoping they'll like it because it's an engagement ring. Perhaps they will, but it is so much more special if the design was chosen with them in mind.

Furthermore, do not equate a more complex design with a higher price, this is simply not the case. Unless the design is bespoke there should be little variation between mount prices (excluding multi vs. solitaire mounts), and you will not impress anyone if you buy something that is complicated gratuitously.

The main price factor in a diamond engagement ring is, fairly obviously, the diamond. Therefore, it is also important to consider how your diamond will look in the setting, wider bands may look better with a Princess cut, others may not, and both diamond and mount must be considered as a whole in order to get a distincly special ring.
